French telco SFR has renewed and extended its contract with local technology provider Netgem for another three years, covering a variety of areas including hardware, software, maintenance and services.

SFR launched its 'Neufbox' service in 2004, delivering IPTV, telephony and data services to customer premises equipment (CPE) provided by Netgem, and has since gone on to reach 3.1mn  IPTV subscribers by the end of 2010, of which around 600,000 are estimated to take its premium content offers, and around 90% of its subscriber base is believed to be HDTV-enabled.

The new contract is effective until June 30th, 2014, and includes a shift in the relationship between the two companies to give a bigger emphasis on the provision of software and services, with Netgem reportedly contracted to provide SFR with new applications for its customer base.

SFR launched its new 'Neufbox Evolution' service at the end of last year, and recently reported that it has already achieved 250,000 customers.
