Motorola has confirmed that it will complete the separation of Motorola Mobility from Motorola on January 4th of next year.

The separation is to be effected through a tax-free dividend involving the redistribution of all Motorola Mobility common stock held by Motorola to Motorola shareholders, and the board of directors has also approved a reverse stock split of shares of Motorola common stock following the distribution.

Under the terms agreed, Motorola will change its name to Motorola Solutions and the spin-off will trade as Motorola Mobility Holdings.
